Overview

Trainees clock in and out, while supervisors monitor attendance live, review records and manage shifts. It handles real-world cases such as night shifts, lunch rules, late marking and banked extra hours.

Problem

Manual attendance tracking is slow to total up and easy to falsify, especially when trainees could clock in from anywhere.

Solution

A web app with a quick-punch kiosk and a live supervisor view, which limits attendance to registered office devices and uses the server's clock instead of the device's.

Architecture

A React and TypeScript front end with a serverless API on Vercel and a Supabase database.

Stack

ReactTypeScriptNode.jsSupabaseVercel

Key features

  • Quick-punch kiosk and live monitor
  • Shifts, rest days, late marking and night-shift handling
  • Time bank for extra hours
  • Records import and activity log

Security notes

  • Attendance is restricted to registered office PCs and requires an attendance token
  • Server-synced time, so changing a device's clock doesn't affect records
  • Hashed passwords and separate trainee and supervisor views
  • Permanent activity log for accountability
